Brownlee water temp coming out of the dam- 46 |
Snake River water temp- 46 |
C.J. Strike water temp- 52 |
| |
Report By: Chris |
The Snake river is really a bummer! Weather is great, water temp is great, but the flows are out of control and the water is muddy. It's been over three weeks of flooding and I'm sure its effecting the fishes spawning. Hopefully it will slow down soon and the fish can do thier thing. On the bright side, we had a few bites and they got away, some bass and a couple cats. Brooke brought in a nice cat off a bass grub and we had a great time. Ticks and mesquitos are coming out so watch out!

Brownlee was a producer! Water levels were way down, but the motorhome pulled it off and the fishing was pretty good. The water is pretty muddy and they are still dumping water, so levels may even go down more. Camp hosts said it will be two weeks before they start filling. Clint did his rape the lake and we worked the rocks for bass. The bass have moved up and are warming up near the rocks. Most all the bass were over 12" so they were a lot of fun to catch. The crappie are pretty nice sized too many in the 12" range. Seemed like near all the fish had eggs. I'll be heading back asap!

Great report from Frank at C.J. The sturgeon were biting good and a couple nice ones won the fight. Ripped the swivel apart on 80lb line! Flows are up and the hole below the bridge is a mud hole, but up the camp site still produced. The dam is being opened up sunday and cameras are in place to view just how many sturgeon are going through the dam from the lake. Last year, quite a few tagged sturgeon ended up from the lake to the river, so this year a more detailed look is in place. Fish and game states the large sturgeon are in the resevoir. The trout were also biting good on the res from shore by the dam. Nice size trout were biting early pretty good. Some bank fisherman had 62 trout and multiple stringers full!! Wonder if fish and game ever caught up with them?? Seem like the year of the trout for C.J. now that the past year of the crappie has died down.

A couple of the nicest days I've seen at C.J. Until Sat that is. The perch were biting worms off the bottom and a few crappie were hitting rapalas and spinners as we trolled through the narrows. We never really tried to fish the crappie clouds, so unsure how they are biting. The boats were packed in there friday pretty thick and trolling everywhere. Fishing seemed better thurs with less pressure and sat morn, a huge storm almost blew us out of there. Glad we didn't leave and we manned up and trolled the white caps. We were the only boat on the lake and caught two of the nicest trout I've seen off C.J. Dang near lost a pole to one of em'

The Jet boat is running great!! First time out this year and she fired right up. Cloudy cold and windy on the snake but we found a cove and the carp are hungry!! They were biting grubs left and right. We managed to get two in the boat, the others had thier way with us. On up to Clints old secret spot we hooked a decent sized 6-7 lb cat. A quick pic and back in the water for Clint to find!! Micheal's first fish and one to be proud of.

A few trips to the old ponds and the trout are hungry. We had to get out and fix that fishing itch and the ponds seem to do a fair job. Only takes a little while and the little trout are on. That fishing can only hold me over for so long though! The kids sure like to get out though and its a good spot for them to fish.

I had one real nice fish on for a minute or two and it got away. Either a cat or carp?? Tyler had fun and fished for awhile. He can hold the pole and reel himself!! I think we'll keep him.

Cj Strike was windy Saturday, but beautiful Sunday. We fished up at Cove arm by the lake and did some Sturgeon fishing. We had one on but it got away. Crappies were bitin there and I managed to catch a couple smaller bass, but bass fishing was slow! Gerald, Z, and Donald went up Monday up the snake arm further and caught 30 or so and some nice keepers. Crappie were still biting best in the narrows, but not at all midway up the arm. We had boat races, swam, and sunbathed. Then had a great time and good dinner at the bar.

Friday was WINDY! Sure is windy place over there. We fished out of the truck friday, then that night I hooked into a big catfish or carp? Almost landed him. Saturday the wind calmed down finally and we caught a bunch of crappie. There were smaller this time and biting a little slower. Maybe all the boats are catching them all. There a slew of boats there again in the narrows.

Fishing was red hot!!! We all caught fish and had a great relaxing day. Levi left his phone and wallet at the camp site and remembered half the way home. He went back the next day, faught the winds on his little pontoon boat and was stranded alone for hours!! He was rescued by a couple nice guys sent by his wife.

I sure love the snake river! We showed up at close to 9 pm. We bass fished to the cat spot and caught bass the whole way. Some small, some descent. The snag is really bad! You have to know how to fish the river to even bait fish. It took us till midnight to figure it out, and pulling 10 lbs of weeds off our line. But then Mike caught a 7lb, and I faught my biggest cat yet at 10 lbs for over 5 minutes. He was almost as round as he was long! When we took off (at two) to head back, a swarm of bugs took to the vessle. Thousands!! I had to drive lightless to even make it back. P.S. I let the big cat go, he's still out there!!

Deadwood was beautiful once again! The wind picked up every day around 2 though. You could still head across the lake and hide in a cove though. Kokanee were not to be found. I did catch a couple, but they just seemed sparce, or really deep. Trout fishing was good, but they were on the smaller side. The nightime festivities were interesting with the fireworks and all. Its a sad day when your camera is broke at deadwood!!!!!!

Our party of 17 included 8 of our close friends from Singapore. It was their first experience camping and fishing. We drove to Owyhee Reservoir on Friday morning. Fishing for Crappie on North Side of reservoir was spotty- some holes holding lots of fish. No Crappie found on points. Between Friday afternoon and Sunday afternoon we boated at least 150 Crappie and 5 nice sized Bass, large and small mouth. Most of the crappie were small- no lunkers on this trip but it was a great weekend on the lake.

The mayflies hatched, and the river was full of em'. The bass seemed to have slowed off a bit, but were still biting. More males than females, but we did catch a couple big ones that looked like they had eggs. All bass were released so I'm not sure. The ticks were in force, so beware!! The ants were trying to take over also, but no mesquitos! Two catfish were taken bass fishing, and the rest bait fishing in the evening, and night. Levi hooked into a big carp, and faught him down for quite a while.

Good times at CJ Strike! We were a part of the zoo for sure out there. I hope everyone got all the ticks off!? I'm surprised all the boats made it back with em floating away and running up shore and all. There were a ton of crappie, and few bass but many were small. I managed to get one good size bass though. Clint and Tracy brought in some trout, and Clint also caught one catfish. Aaron and Cam had a good load of bass them. Gerald and Cam went coyote huntin, and chased one clear up shore with the boat!! Didn't see either of them till morning.

I also caught a few in the 2+ lb. range. Eric and Trix met up with us, and we managed to fit all 5 of in the river boat!! We cat fished after night fall with no bites!

Catfishing was a little slow, Mike got one.The bass were biting the next day early. Slowed up as the day progressed. I caught my biggest bass yet at 3 1/2 lbs. Caught another biggie at close to 3lbs. soon after that. Mike hooked on to 2 lb also. We carp hunted for a while and think we got it just about figured out. Next trip we know what to do. Friday night was ON for catfishin'!! We had a good turn out of people, Drew, Shane, Patty, Deidra, Ashton, Lindsey, Hailey, and me. We showed up at about 8pm and I caught a 7 lb. within 10 minutes. Drew caught a nice 10 lb and the others. There was a few lost fish and many other nibblers. Patty took a flying back dive into the snake, I give that a score of 9. A must see for that area of the snake with its 5 foot steep bank. I thought she was gone down the river for minute.
Mike and I went back saturday night and fishin was slow. Someone turned off the catchin switch! We did get one though, and I caught a 20 lb. carp. 8lb. line again!

Fishing was great! Caught 5 different kinds of fish which kept things really exciting. Weather was really nice and the lake was pretty quiet. We didn't have a good scale, but we were still catching a fair amount of females in the 2 lb. range. The big one got away from me on a grub, so I'll be back!! We let all the bass go except one (cut bait for cats) The catfishing was impressive. Around 15 bites but we only got 3. They really kept us on our toes. For those that think they're easy fishing, I still think they are one of the smartest most elusive fish to catch. Well if anything, they keep us fishing when the suns down! |

Awesome weekend at woodhead! Weather was exceptionally nice, warming up to near 80 in the day. Many sunburns!! But the bass were hittin pretty good. Looks like we caught the tail end of a good biting streak. For those of you who missed this trip, you very well might have missed the peak Another cool spell could keep em' up though. They got fished pretty hard with the tournaments, and Aaron and Cam!! I got to see the biggest bass I have seen (Aarons)at 4.1 lbs I think, and a picture of Cams 5 pounder! Our crew didn't do to bad with a few 2+ pounders.(2.2)Conk -(2.1)Clint. Seems like the bass were bigger this year. Most all were keepers, but we only kept a few and had tacos. Gerald and Zee had a couple 3 pounders. I think they cheat somehow though! |

Big zero for the snake this trip! We fished all day and the weather was great. Bass fished and cat fished. Took the river boat all the way up to Adrain. The water level was up from normal and really muddy. We couldnt see the carp in the shallows even though they were there. |
